THE IMPORTANCE of ETHNIC GROUPS and WOMEN IN CLINICAL STUDIES

As a Site Management Organization, ReSolve Research Solutions Inc. strives to help improve the quality of research produced by our Investigator Sites.

Therefore, we are actively involved in ensuring that visible minorities are aware of, and actively participate in clinical trials.  This issue is important in light of recent scrutiny stemming from the high profile lawsuits against industry leaders. It is not only important for drug companies to become more vigilant in the reporting of drug safety, but also to become accountable for ensuring that minorities are represented in clinical trials. Clinical programs, which do not include all visible minorities, can result in the manufacturing of drugs that have very serious side effects on these populations after the product is marketed. Included in this group are people of ethnic origins, women, elderly, and indigent populations.

Although our genetic makeup is similar, we react differently to many medicines.  As such, it is important that we take action and participate in decisions that effect our health.

In light of this information, it is important that minorities participate in clinical trials. If you are not interested in participating in clinical research, be sure to ask your health care provider about the side effects of the drugs you are taking, and if the research on the medication included an adequate number of minorities in the sample.
